  2. You'll surely need ArcGIS Engine with ArcObject and an IDE to develop standalone/runtime app. ArcGIS runtime is an environment you'll have to create and run any app created by libraries called ArcObject. Example- a tool/add-on/app that will run locally in a closed network or simply a pc that will only do a customized job ArcGIS Desktop or Server can/may not. The runtime comes with ESRI licencing which you must use if you want to run that app. That's why it is called the 'runtime environment'. On the other hand, ArcGIS Engine SDK can create both runtime and sandbox app. If you want to create an app you want to publish for public with/without ESRI license and runtime or platform independent environment, you will need ArcGIS Engine SDK. Example, an app that will run in a random and remote pc who doesn't know ESRI. Features and options always vary with license types. The runtime is more popular for making add-ons and SDK is for making/customizing GIS software.

  3. what kind of project you have? you should decide based on the project. sometimes they want sth standalone sometimes they want add-on. i prefer standalone apps, you dont have to wait for BIG FAT SLOW Arcmap !!! that is quite time consuming but you will not miss any other functions

  6. always interesting what Googles do, recently they make another acquisition, Google on Monday announced its biggest purchase since the mid-2012 Motorola deal – the purchase of Nest Labs for $3.2 billion in cash. Nest Labs produces thermostats and smoke detectors that not only are smart but look good as well. Most interestingly, the founder of Nest is famous former Apple employee Tony Fadell, who’s known for his iPod- and iOS-related work – in fact, he started making Nest thermostats only two years ago, after leaving Apple, and now he will be joining Google. Press Release: MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – JANUARY 13, 2014 — Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) announced today that it has entered into an agreement to buy Nest Labs, Inc. for $3.2 billion in cash. Nest’s mission is to reinvent unloved but important devices in the home such as thermostats and smoke alarms. Since its launch in 2011, the Nest Learning Thermostat has been a consistent best seller–and the recently launched Protect (Smoke + CO Alarm) has had rave reviews. Larry Page, CEO of Google, said: “Nest’s founders, Tony Fadell and Matt Rogers, have built a tremendous team that we are excited to welcome into the Google family. They’re already delivering amazing products you can buy right now–thermostats that save energy and smoke/CO alarms that can help keep your family safe. We are excited to bring great experiences to more homes in more countries and fulfill their dreams!” Tony Fadell, CEO of Nest, said: “We’re thrilled to join Google. With their support, Nest will be even better placed to build simple, thoughtful devices that make life easier at home, and that have a positive impact on the world.” Nest will continue to operate under the leadership of Tony Fadell and with its own distinct brand identity. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including the receipt of regulatory approvals in the US. It is expected to close in the next few months. thermostats and smoke detector, suspicious source : http://investor.google.com/releases/2014/0113.html

  13. YouTube has unveiled their long awaited paid subscription channel service, which will allow some video creators to charge for content. The move could mean millions in new revenue for YouTube’s parent company, Google Inc., Thirty video creators are participating in a pilot program for paid subscription channels. These include National Geographic, Sesame Street, Ultimate Fighting Championship, and the Young Turks, among others. According to Malik Ducard, head of content partnerships at YouTube, users will be able to pay for premium content with a credit card and the Google Wallet payment system. Channels will cost users an average of $2.99 per month, with a minimum charge for paid channels being $0.99 per month. As part of the deal, YouTube and video creators will share revenues. The arrangements are said to be similar to the ones that already exist for sharing YouTube’s ad revenues. YouTube has not announced when their premium channels will go live. When they do, they will give users yet another outlet to stream premium video content, joining others like Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, and Hulu. source : http://appadvice.com/appnn/2013/05/youtube-to-begin-offering-premium-channels

  14. Hello, from wiki : Detail : Company / developer Mozilla Corporation Programmed in HTML, CSS, Javascript,[1] C++ Supported platforms ARM Kernel type Monolithic (Linux kernel) Default user interface Graphical Official website http://www.mozilla.org/firefoxos/ Mozilla has finally launched an operating system for smartphones, one whose ascendancy will probably be a slow burn, but could also mark big changes in the way people interact with mobile devices — by ditching a closed “ecosystem.” Firefox OS for mobile phones is not a walled garden like Apple‘s iOs, Windows Phone or (to an extent) Android. It is based on the open web, which means interacting with many of its HTML5-based apps will be like visiting websites through a browser, opening temporarily as apps, and closing. The phone, in essence, is a browser. Mozilla says Firefox phones will be the world’s first “open web devices.” source : wiki and forbes sites
