Lurker Posted August 8, 2014 Report Share Posted August 8, 2014 DigitalGlobe, a global provider of commercial high-resolution earth observation and advanced geospatial solutions, has received notice from the US Department of Commerce on its application to allow the company to sell its highest resolution commercial satellite imagery. Effective immediately, the company will be permitted to offer customers the highest resolution imagery available from their current constellation. Additionally, the updated approvals will permit them to sell imagery to all of its customers at up to 0,25 m panchromatic and 1,0 m multispectral ground sample distance (GSD) beginning six months after its next satellite WorldView-3 is operational. WorldView-3 is scheduled to launch on 13 or 14 August 2014 from Vandenberg Air Force base. With the launch of WorldView-3, the company will offer customers the highest available resolution, revisit rate, capacity, and spectral diversity satellite imagery. The company currently operates a fleet of five high-resolution earth-imaging satellites, two of which satellites collect imagery sharper than 0,50 m. If the companies that operate satellites want to stay in business, they must offer very high resolution images. And I think that there are already some facial recognition systems from sattelites, and maybe even more...... Big Brother is watching !
